Bumthang

about

Written November 2014. Bumthang is the name of a city in Bhutan-- I wrote this song on a bus ride through the clouds, high up in the himalayas, as we were traveling home from visiting some monks in Bumthang.

lyrics

I'm dissolving into laughter
feels like happy ever after
'cause the water's sacred sheen
is bluer than I've ever seen

from the tip of the tongue
to the depth of the drum
the liver and the lips
make a light, drunken hum

Himalayan honey dripping down
don't ever want to leave this town
because now I know
that when I die I will not go
the mandala sands have shown
that we're never left alone

misty morning taxi ride
I could have sworn that we had died
and that this road leads to above
this is the stuff heaven is made of

broken banks of billowed clouds
I'm drifting in and out
between two lands of dreamery
the sun it might as well be inside of me

Himalayan honey dripping down
don't ever want to leave this town
because now I know
that when I die I will not go
the mandala sands have shown
that we're never left alone

and there are souls entangled in your past
now they're merely holes, but those won't last
and the first fact to remember is
how much has changed since we were kids

I'm dissolving into laughter
feels like happy ever after
'cause the water's sacred sheen
is bluer than I've ever seen

from the tip of the tongue
to the depth of the drum
the liver and the lips
make a light, drunken hum
