we were travelers in a storybook
I found the lost boys living and I took a second look
at the world through this lens, in the company of friends
and I knew at once this is where the story ends

meters felt like miles in the sunshine on the beach
and our brother was a whale though he was safely out of reach
of the crescent crashing back like the sense of life in me
and I knew at once that now is the only time to be

with seashells in our hair and sunlight woven through
everything we saw was lovely, everything we said was true
in the absence of rules it feels okay to just be you
in the absence of shame people's hearts will lead them through

shameless, blameless, we're babies after all
but we started pointing fingers, ate the fruit, took our fall
God is dead, and his head his mounted on the wall
so we must forgive each other for him
